Member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Onyx

Mariana López de Lara is a member of the Board of Directors of Grupo Onyx, which was founded by her father Mario López Estrada in 1967. Grupo Onyx is one of the most important business groups in the country and focuses on direct investments, renewable energy generation, distribution of consumer products, digital services, and commercial and industrial real estate development in Guatemala and Paraguay. Ms. López de Lara is also an active member of the investment committee of the family’s liquid portfolio.

Ms. López de Lara is a founding member of the Mario López Estrada Foundation, the social arm of the business group, where she is actively involved in decision-making. The main purpose of the Foundation is to support health, education, and transparency projects throughout the country.

Ms. López de Lara has also been involved with other social organizations, in particular she served as president of the board of trustees of Fundación Ayúdame a Vivir (AYUVI) from 2018-2021. AYUVI is a non-profit organization that supports and finances the treatment of children with cancer in Guatemala.

She is also serving her second term as an elected member of the Board of Trustees of the University of Richmond in Virginia (2017-2020 and 2020-2023).

Earlier in her career, Ms. López de Lara served as Director of Management of a magazine published by the Association of Managers of Guatemala (1990-1991) and as Director of NEXUS (1992-1995), an enterprise dedicated to the sale of construction materials for high-quality buildings.

Ms. López de Lara graduated Magna Cum Laude with degrees in Economics and Business Administration from the Francisco Marroquín University of Guatemala. She lives in Guatemala with her husband Juan Carlos Lara and they have three children.
